ADMINISTRATOR [0]: I'm going to cut and paste the questions and our lovely Miss Deirdre is going to answer.

Don L: can you change your font, deirdre?

OldFatGuy: i'm getting a cool mixture of english and gibberish. reminds me of my drinking days.

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: Hold on....

Emma [0]: yep I do Agree

Deirdre: Ok guys. Here's the answer to the first question kindly submitted by Danial. Fingers crossed NewBornMusic: John Ireland / Lyrics:Christina Rosetti Your brother has a falconYour sister has a flower But what is left for mannequin Born within an hour I'll nurse you on my knee, my knee My own little son I'll rock you, rock you in my arms my least little one I'll rock you, rock you in my arms my least little one. John Ireland was a prolific composer of all kinds of music. His songs are so descriptive and true to the lyrics that I could not let the chance slip by to record my favourite. Here, his musical accompaniment of Christina Rosetti's simple sentiment is breathtakingly pure and has the candour of a child. Although I have no children of my own yet, I can imagine myself singing this song to my own 'little one'. And Yes, I do think of my little nephew and niece when I sing it!

KewlTalk: Dale Joins Room

OldFatGuy: i love it when you talk hexadecimal.

Emma [0]: Hi Dale

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: Deirdre, since you are often touring with the Celtic Tenors, do you know yet if you will be touring with them on their USA Spring tour?

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: That question was from Don Leavitt

Deirdre: Well it seems that that was in English but not punctuated. The question was in reference to the track New Born and my nephew and niece

Deirdre: With regards to Don's question about touring in the Spring with CTs ..
Don, although I like to be well organised so far as my forward touring schedule is concerned, with all the disruption to my plans with Celtic Woman being cut short, I found myself having to change tack fairly quickly. The Celtic Tenors offered me the US dates and I have committed myself as far as I dare, but with my new album out and my desire to get my own show 'out there' I feel that I must be circumspect in regard to saying exactly where I'll be in three months time. I have a number of projects that I am working on and I will let you all know as soon as I can what those plans are should they come to fruition. The costs associated with touring in
America must be taken into account also. The chance to tour as The CelticTenor's guest is wonderful for me since the costs are bourne mainly by their management company and I can still maintain a presence while the boys build their profile. Touring is usually put together by a record label and until I have licensed the album with a distribution deal it is almost impossible to make a solo tour work. There are many wonderful musicians and artists that I know of who will sadly never be heard by a wider public because all the elements for getting yourself  known just never fell into place for them. There is still a lot of luck involved in this business.

Deirdre: My two other brothers have always been very musical and both of them carry a guitar with them on all occassions. My sister is a little shy but she can understand the 'buzz' that we get from singing. I believe that having grown up enveloped in music that it has deeply effected them as well as us. They see it almost as a second skin! They will always appreciate it and also have great critical ears for my work. I never hesitate to ask their opinion and I always get an honest answer.

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: When will you have your schedule for the Year 2007?  as far as appearances in the USA are concerned.  I thought you were going to be touring with the CT in Feb or Mar.. but I might be wroing... Bill Godfrey

Deirdre: -Bill Godfrey BillI think I will be on tour with the boys then alright. I have postedsome new dates on the site today so keep an eye out there. I will letyou know beyond that as soon as I possibly can. Sorry you can't bewith us!

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: It seems as though everyone is just raving over your new CD!! Any chance you might release your first CD Evening Clouds for those of us that can't get enough of your beautiful voice?  Don

Deirdre: Thank you Don, for flattering me with your knowledge of my previous work. With regard to Evening Clouds it may turn up as a 'curio' one day but the feeling was when I made it (and this is my conviction to this day) was that it did not represent my voice nor my musical aspirations. I am a very tough critic of my own work and will simply not allow myself to go below a certain standard. My opinion of Evening Clouds, although there are some very lovely moments on it, was that it is not good enough and I'm afraid I can be very stubborn when it comes to moving my standards downwards. I know there are a few copies out there and I have had very nice comments abou tit, for that I thank you but as an artist I am maturing all the time and although I did the best that I could do at the time, my creative involvement in the album was minimal and I felt that I was over-ruled on many aspects of production and that the finished product did not reflect my own creativity. I am not ashamed of it at all but would rather my new album be the bench mark for my future work. I am thinking about a new album at the moment and in fact have just been on a two day photo shoot with a view to a future album.

con336: same here its a wonderful cd dierdre is your cd still only available from your site??

Deirdre: Thank you Con

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: I love the songs in the CD that you sing in Gaelic.  Is is such a beautiful and melodic language.  Did you speak and learn Gaelic in your home growing up as a child or did you learn it at school?  Do you speak it with your parents and siblings today?  Is it in danger of becoming extinct due to fewer children learning and speaking the language today?  If so, is there a concerted effort within Ireland to keep it alive for future generations?
ADMINISTRATOR [0]: that question was from Don Pettigrew

con336: thanx for singing it

Deirdre: Don,I learned Irish (Gaelic) at both Primary and Secondary School. I was lucky enough to be blessed with really good teachers for which I am still very grateful. I always loved it and despite not having a brilliant apptitude for languages (Maths was my forte!) I did very well in Irish exams down through the years. We spoke it a small bit at home but English was our first language. I loved singing in Irish and playing Celtic tunes on the tin whistle and accordian, it always seemed like magic music to me. Mr. Murchanthe head teacher at the time had a great passion for it and I think that's where my deep love of Irish came from - through music - at avery young age. Now I try to keep my spoken Irish brushed up. It will always be a pleasure for me to sing 'as gaeilge'.As for the tradition itself, it is alive and kicking! There's a revival happening and it is no longer something to be embarrassed about as it was in the 40s and 50s. Gaelic is still being taught in Primary and Secondary Schools and is compulsary for Primary Teacher Training. There's even a funky new Irish TV channel called 'TnaG' which is doing really well here. So I'm delighted to say that it's far from fading!

Deirdre: Sorry bout that. Thought it would be in bold text. Excuse me if it is difficult to read

Rianne: it's perfectly readable

Cassie: don't worry, Deirdre, it's ok

Lucca:  how long have you been singing deirdre?

Deirdre: I am very grateful that it is not so hard. That's good. X

Lucca:  sorry if that's already been asked.

Deirdre: I have been singing about 10 years professionally

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: I love the fun song "Gathering Mushrooms on your new CD.   This question is about some of the lyrics in that song.  Can you help us Americans understand how you make your mammy ketchup from mushrooms?  Is the ketchup referred to in the song something that we might call "gravy" in the US?  Don Pettigrew

con336: despite the attempt by the englsih to wipe it out

Deirdre: Well in a way yes as there are some expressions that cannot be translated directly like any language. That's wy I like to keep the sentiment in its original language

MODERATOR: Please refrain from interjecting questions at this time...as soon as Deirdre has had an opportunity to address those submitted previously, then you will all have an opportunity

Suzanne: thank goodness...i have tickets for march

Deirdre: Ok I think I have the hang of this. My answers are in bold type from now on so it's easy to see

Emma [0]: I haven't heard it?

con336: when you translate songs from gaelic to english is there something lost in the translation???

Deirdre: That's ok. I sometimes forget myself!

Aldhelm: it's neat that irish has been kept alive all these years

KewlTalk: Suzanne Joins Room

con336: despite the attempt by the englsih to wipe it out

Deirdre: Well in a way yes as there are some expressions that cannot be translated directly like any language. That's why I like to keep the sentiment in its original language

MODERATOR: Please refrain from interjecting questions at this time...as soon as Deirdre has had an opportunity to address those submitted previously, then you will all have an opportunity. Thanks.

Deirdre: Gathering Mushrooms here goes...

con336: oak let us know when we can question diedre hey

Deirdre:  Iwill be totally frank with you on this one. Nobody that I have asked has any idea what this refers to as 'ketchup' is specifically a tomato based sauce. So..... we have to put this one down to poetic license. I have always assumed though that it's some sort of mushroom sauce that does not go off since it has many spices in it. Like pickles ?

Deirdre: There are a few more questions. But feel free to ask anything if you don't understand what I've written in response to pre-submitted questions

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: Deirdre, you sing Dormi Jesu like I imagine Mary might have sung lullabies to the infant Christ Child...  If Dormi Jesu is included both of your CD's have each included two beautiful lullabies.  Could you tell us about your interest in including these lullabies on your albums?  Don Leavitt...

Deirdre: had seriously considered making an album entirely made up of lullabies. This says a lot, for I am very comfortable singing this genre of music. So be on the look-out for an album like this in the future from me.

Deirdre: Well observed Don. When I was researching my latest album Deirdre Shannon, I had seriously considered making an album entirely made up of lullabies. This says a lot, for I am very comfortable singing this genre of music. So be on the look-out for an album like this in the future from me.

Deirdre: Sorry, oops..

DonPettigrew: That's ok Deirdre we love reading your answers twice. LOL!

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: Next question:  The reason you recorded She Moved Through The Fair a-capella had nothing to do with the song itself, but judging by the reviews and the comments I've heard, many people seem to prefer it this way.  I am one of them, since I think the song is at its most haunting this way.. like it is supposed to be.  Would you have preferred to record it with music, and if so, why?  Rianne..

Deirdre: Cool Don. So you're all with me??

Deirdre: I'm not boring you then?

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: Oops.. good beer again!!!

Rianne:  shy is supposed to be "why"?

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: Never!!!

Cassie: you never bore us, Deirdre...

Suzanne: not ever

Deirdre: Ah Cassie..

Cassie: yep

Deirdre: ..get what?

Rianne:  that was e question about "evening clouds" someone else already asked :-)

Rianne:  everyone keeps asking me where they can get it

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: People keep asking me where I can get Evening Clouds, and when I tell them it was sold out ages ago, they ask whether I think you are going to re-release it.  I obviously don't know that so here goes, on behalf of at least half the Celtic Woman forum and quite a few people on the Celtic Tenors forum:  is there any chance that you might re-release Evening Clouds?  Rianne

Deirdre:  Thank you Rianne. I have answered Don Pettigrew's question above and I hope that it also answers your question.

Rianne:  i know, thank you. i think evening clouds is great too, though!!

Cassie: I agree

Cassie: still love to listen to it!

Deirdre: Thanks you ladies. I'm flattered..really

MODERATOR: You don't have to feel obligated to answer the following question, but you often appear taller than the other ladies in several of the web site pictures. Would you please tell us how tall you are?  Don Leavitt

Deirdre: Don, I think I am about 5'7K

Cassie: I guess you are taller, Deidre....

Cassie: you are taller than me and I am 5'7

Lester: nessa im!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MODERATOR: What do you like the most about touring and what is the most interesting experience you have had to date while on tour

con336: dierdre will you be with the cts on their march 3 concert in blue ball pa???

Deirdre: Jenny, there are lots of things I like about touring but the big thing is that yu get to spend a lot of constant quality time with your music. On the road there are few 'real life distractions which provide a very sheltered environment if you like. You can easily get lost in the world of music there. The most interesting experience I had on the road was being on tour with Mr. Tom Petty. Through him I had the honour of meeting many stars like Stevie Nicks, David Crosby, Stephen Stills etc. An amazing time in my life I would have to say! I love listening to mostly female folk artists like Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Eva Cassidy, Linda Ronstadt, Nora Jones. The list goes on..

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: What do you like the most about touring and what is the most interesting experience you have had to date wwhile on tour?  What type of music do you most enjoy listening to?  Jenny!!

con336: dierdre will you be with the cts on their march 3 concert in blue ball pa???

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: Next question...

Deirdre: Not sure right now Con about that specific date though I will be on tha tour with the boys. Too much fun!!..

con336: thats my part of the state

Deirdre: Well please email me or at least check out www.deirdreshannon.com or even the fansite to know for sure

Would you have preferred to record it with music, and if so: why? Rianne

Deirdre:Rianne, I love singing acapella and when a song has such a strong identity as 'She Moved Through The Fair'. I think it is often the most powerful way to communicate a song and by far the most difficult. There is nothing to hide behind! I wouldn't change this song as it s. I like it too much.

Deirdre: I think that that was the las pre submitted quest so let loose everyone

Cassie: I listened to a male version of that song lately.. that was strange (by Sinead O'Connor)

MODERATOR: Hi Deirdre, just wondering if you will ever plan to come up to
Anchorage, Alaska on tour? That would be sso cool if that would happen. But either way I'll be traveling to see you in Albany, New York on the 6th of March. I'm going to be able to catch the 1 CT show while on tyhe east coast this spring. I'm looking forward to it. You will recognise me, I'll be the one in the third row center with a big smile on my face. Hopefully after the show I'll be able to see and talk with you. - Tony Picallo

OldFatGuy: by the way, folks, mushroom ketchup is a common condiment in england. tomato ketchup originated in new england, about 200 years ago. ketchup was originally a chinese sauce made with pickled fish.

DonPettigrew: Deirdre, have you ever been able to meet any of the female singers you look up to so much?

Aldhelm: i did not know that, rich. kind of confused when that question came up

Deirdre:
Alaska will always be cool!! Wow I would really Like to go there.

DonPettigrew: Thanks Rich!  I knew I should have asked you in the forum before I asked Deirdre.

Deirdre: I have seen many of them in concert, but alas no..

MODERATOR: Just a comment...Thank you, Deirdre, for being a warm and kind person, in addition to your artistic talents, and for being such an enthusiastic partner in our Songbird Charities venture. -Rich Ropes

OldFatGuy: i'm a fountain of useless information.

Deirdre: Thank you Rich. Love those mushrooms!

con336: dierdre in case you haven't checked out the cw site recently a new thread has been started urging members to donate to charity in honor of cw do you have any specific causes you support? better then christas fruit cake.

Rianne:  i still think celine dion and andrea bocellu themselves would be proud of your and matthew's cover of "the prayer"

Rianne:  celine dion and andrea bocelli, of course.....

MODERATOR: Hi Deirdre, Congratulations on your new album, love it! Could you give us an update on the planning of your upcoming 2007 tour?- Lester

Deirdre: As regards the 'Songbirds Charity' I am very happy to be involved and always will support a good cause

OldFatGuy: http://www.actionaid.org/

con336: you and matthew really harmonize well together

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: Hey folks.. we have one more question to go.. then we will open the chat for free talk!!

Coleen: i like deirdre and matthew's version of the prayer better than celine's and andrea's

Cassie: me too

con336: sorry

Coleen:  sorry jenny

Deirdre: I am not aware of the CW idea though there was talk of it while I was in the show

Cassie: but we are a bit biased, aren't we??

Deirdre: I will find out more about it

Rianne:  sorry, jenny

Deirdre: Oops sorry there. I thought we were through with quests..x

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: No problem

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: We're all excited that she's here!!!

Don L: deirdre, what kind of diversions do you pursue in your spare time - what kind of hobbies / interests besides your music?

Cassie: Deirdre, Cassie again... I shall ask you from Karl heinz if you'll be in
Boston in March next year... ;-)

Deirdre: I love to walk, work in the garden, swim and other gentle things.

ADMINISTRATOR [0]: I guess the floor is open!!

con336:  dierdre, which song of your cd is your favorite???

Deirdre: I'm not so good with aggressive sports. oh yes and I love to paint and draw

Deirdre: Won't be in
Boston in March Cassie. Can you convery this?

con336: do you enjoy watching their birds

Rianne:  i'd love to see your paintings and drawings, Deirdre

Cassie: as for the painter you are, Rianne (quite good who doesn't know, by the way)

Coleen: i'll have to look into it

Rianne:   thanks, cassie

Caite: Deirdre, what advice would you have for an aspiring singer?

Deirdre: Thank you laura

Cassie: you know me, I say what I think... ;-)

Rianne:  what do you like to paint/draw, deirdre?

con336: always wondered do you have to be born with musical talent or can it be developed or perhaps a little of both????//

Deirdre: Caite, be true to yourself always and sing what you are comfortable with. You may be pushed in certain directions but be  vocal always about tyour likes

Cassie: how's your niece, Deidre? did you spend some time with her yet?

Deirdre: Thanks so much for your comments about 'the Prayer'

Deirdre: It's one of my favourites too

Deirdre: Rianne is great.. thanks Cassie

Deirdre: I love to draw close ups of natural subjucts like trees, and other textured subjects.

Deirdre: I like painting landscapes

DonPettigrew: Deirdre, how is Matthew's new little one, Grace doing?  I just spent the weekend with my one year old neice and had a great time with her.  Do you get to see Grace often?

Caite: Thanks for the advice

Rianne:  plenty of pretty landscapes in ireland

Deirdre: Talent and ability get you over the threshhold, Con. At least I was always told this. It is a tough life - not for the fainthearted

Guest:  are you planning on a solo tour in the spring? i hope so!

Cassie: yes, please!! and don't forget Germany!!D

Deirdre: I have seen baby Grace a few times. She is beautiful, placid and enquiring already
